Gustaf Allan Hellman (February 20, 1904 – November 26, 1982) was a Swedish engineer and frontman and founder of RFSL (The Swedish Federation for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer Rights). Allan Hellman is considered the first to speak openly in Sweden about his homosexuality and was the initiator of RFSL in 1950 after a Danish role model. [1] The Allan Hellman Prize was established in 1981 by RFSL Göteborg in memory of Hellman's contribution. The prize is awarded to those who "have worked in the spirit of Allan Hellman to increase sexual equality in society in the past year in a meritorious manner and in the spirit of Allan Hellman". [2] The male choir Hellmans Drengar, which is based in Gothenburg, is named after Allan Hellman. [3] He is buried in Åkerbräckan Cemetery in Lysekil. [4]
