Blanka Waleská, real name Blanka Wedlichová (19 May 1910, in Cerhenice – 6 July 1986, in Prague) was a lesbian Czech actress. She starred in the 1969/70 film Witchhammer under director Otakar Vávra.[1] She was also known for Jedna z miliónu (1935), Alles kaputt! (1950) and Upír z Feratu (1982). She was the life partner of the long-time director of the Theater Institute Ph Dr. Evy Soukupové.
Blanka Waleská was born on May 19, 1910 in Cerhence by Kolín, Austria-Hungary as Blanka Vedlichová.
She studied at a grammar school, but moved to Cologne for a family school, which she did not finish. She worked as a children's educator, ediched in film and dance ensemble in the Smíchov Arena. She started acting relatively late, from 1930 to 1934 she studied at the drama department of the Prague Conservatory. [1] She subsequently performed a number of avant-garde and small stages, performed at the Vlasta Buriana Theatre(1934),continued at the New Theatre(1934–1936), briefly at the Liberated Theatre, and was then engaged at the State Theatre in Ostrava(1936–1941). From 1941 to1944 she worked in Urania and after the liberation at the Theatre on 5 May . [2] From 1948 until 1976, when she retired, she worked as an important and prominent member of the drama ensemble of the National Theatre in Prague. She also found employment in radio and television, also appeared in films and dabbled in dubbing.
She died on July 6, 1986 in Prague, Czechoslovakia.
