Arch Brown (pseudonym of Arnold Krueger) was a filmmaker, photographer, playwright, and philanthropist. He attended Northwestern University before moving to New York City in the late 1950s. There, he met his life partner, Bruce Brown (1934 – July 7, 1993), a pharmacist. Using Bruce's last name professionally, Arch Brown gained famed during the 1970s and early 1980s as the director of a series of feature-length gay pornographic films. In the late 1970s, Brown began writing plays, which he continued until the end. Following Bruce Brown’s death in 1993, Arch Brown established the Arch and Bruce Brown Foundation, which holds yearly literary competitions and gives grants to performing-arts organizations producing works that are LGBT-themed and based on history. Arch wrote about his relationship with Bruce in an essay in Longtime Companions: Autobiographies of Gay Male Fidelity (1999). Arch and Bruce are interred together in Charlotte, Michigan.
