Carl
Alan House (April 4, 1929 - May 16, 2021) was born on Thursday, April 4, 1929, in Coffeyville, Kansas, son of Hubert H. House and Viola Ross. During Carl's
teenage years, the family moved to New Mexico. Carl embraced life to the
fullest. From early road trips, railway tours to transatlantic crossings on
the Queen Mary and QEII - all for wonderful adventures. After an honorable
discharge from the United States Army, Carl resided in New York with his
partner, Henry D. Messer. Both
enjoyed the many cultural events in the city, especially the Metropolitan
Opera. Weekends at their summer vacation home on Fire Island were included in
their busy schedules. Carl was well read and extremely knowledgeable on a vast
number of subjects. Although his management and maintenance responsibilities
for his rental properties were time consuming, his day began with the New York
Times crossword puzzle which he would complete in ink in thirty minutes or
less. As an avid collector, Carl frequented antique shops, second-hand
bookstores, and engaged in extensive research for specific treasures to add
to his multiple collections. Carl had a special fondness for ocean liner
memorabilia, particularly the Normandy. After retiring and a move to Michigan,
Carl and Henry enjoyed travel abroad, museums, concerts and summers at their
Fire Island home. Carl and his brother shared a life-long passion for classic
automobiles, and Carl's dream of owning one came true in later years when he acquired his own classic 1936 K, V-12 Lincoln LeBaron Coupe.
Carl House, age 92, died peacefully at his home on May 16, 2021. He was predeceased by his life-time partner Henry Messer.
