Donald Eugene Farmer (October 2, 1932 - December 4, 1984) was born on 2 October 1932, in Virginia, the son of Joseph Edwin Farmer (1908-2002), and Alice Maria Acors (1908-2000). He created rooftop gardens in New York City. His recipe for apple cake is in one of James Beard's cookbooks.

He died on 4 December 1984, in Richmond, Virginia, at the age of 52, and was buried in Greenwood Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Goochland, Virginia, United States.
