Queer Places:
Lincoln Memorial Cemetery
Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, USA
In November 1960, ONE reported on Elroy Schulz (1906 - April, 1960), a brewery worker with a previous sodomy conviction, who had been picked up by vice cop Thomas Thelen after Schulz supposedly made indecent proposals in Milwaukee’s Juneau Park. At the jail, “Schulz had to be treated for injuries to his eye, mouth, dentures and side.” After being bailed out by a friend, the magazine story continued, “he died of severe internal injuries, fractured ribs and brain hemorrhage an hour later."
