He earned his B.A. in art history from Yale in 1960 and received his M.A., in 1965, and his Ph.D., in 1973, both from Columbia.

An article in a 1972 issue of "Columbia College Today" described Santomasso: "In every generation there are a very few teachers whose courses are not merely excellent, they are an absolute must; whose offices are always packed with students; whose phones never stop ringing. Santomasso is one of these."

In 1967 Santomasso joined Columbia as an instructor in art history. In 1973 he became assistant professor of art history and in 1982 adjunct assistant professor of architecture and planning. He was also an associate professor of art history at Brooklyn College and the C.U.N.Y. Graduate Center.

Prior to her work with InterExchange, Nicole lived, worked, and studied in India and Japan. She holds an M.B.A. in Management from the Zicklin School of Business at CUNY Baruch College and a B.A. in History from Oberlin College.
