Prince Jean Amédée Marie Anatole de Broglie (January 27, 1886 - February 20, 1918) was born in Paris, Île-de-France. He was the son of François Marie Albert de Broglie and Jeanne Emeline Cabot de Dampmartin. Prince François was the fourth son of Albert de Broglie, 4th duc de Broglie, whose mother, Albertine de Staël-Holstein (1797–1838), was the daughter of Germaine de Staël and, reputedly, Benjamin Constant.
On 10 May 1910 in Paris he married Daisy (Decazes) Fellowes. Their country estate was Compton Beauchamp House in Oxfordshire, where they raised three daughters:
Of her Broglie children, the notoriously caustic Fellowes once said, "The eldest, Emmeline, is like my first husband only a great deal more masculine; the second, Isabelle, is like me without guts; [and] the third, Jacqueline, was the result of a horrible man called Lischmann ...."[5]
He died of influenza at 32 years old while serving with the French Army in Mascara, Algeria, though malicious observers gossiped that he actually committed suicide as a result of his homosexuality having been exposed. His wife reportedly caught him in bed with the family's chauffeur. He was buried in the family tomb at Cimetière du Père Lachaise, Paris.
