John W. “Jack” Campbell (December 5, 1932 – February 19, 2014)  opened the Club Baths in Cleveland in 1965, the launch of a national chain of gay bath houses. Later in Miami, he helped lead resistance to Anita Bryant’s “Save Our Children” crusade. Campbell remained active in Democratic Party politics throughout his life.

John W. Campbell was born in East Grand Rapids on December 5, 1932, to Dr. Willard (Bill) and Pat Campbell. Jack graduated from East Grand Rapids High School in 1951. He attended the University of Michigan for one year. He then moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where he graduated from Kent State University with a bachelor's degree in accounting. Jack started several businesses over the next 15 years while living in Cleveland. He then moved to Miami, Florida, where he lived for the next 42 years. His last two years were spent in San Diego where he was close to his family.

Jack's passion was politics which began when he was in high school. He was Fountain Club president at Fountain Street Church during his senior year (1950-1951). He was exceedingly involved in the Democratic Party nationally and in Dade County, Florida. He was a representative from South Florida to the Democratic National Convention several times.

Jack Campbell, age 81, passed away on February 19, 2014, in San Diego, California. Internment was at Rosedale Cemetery in Standale.
