Luther Boggs (March 1, 1926 - June 24, 1973) was among the 32 victims of
the UpStairs Lounge fire. Boggs was one who came through the window in flames after pushing his female friend through the gap, the flames put out by the owner of a neighboring bar,
Gene Davis, but his injuries were too severe to survive. Boggs,
a computer programmer, died within a week, after treatment for third degree
burns over 50% of his body, not knowing that he had been terminated from his
teaching job while fighting for life.
Luther Thomas Boggs was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the son of Allan Boggs
(1893–1952) and
Agnes Hilda Blanchard (1896–1976). He is buried with his mother in Mimosa-Pines South Cemetery, Carlyss, Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana.
