Maida Castelhun Darnton (1872 - December 12, 1939) was the grand-daughter of the famous German poet Friedrich Karl Castelhun (1828-1905), who had emigrated to the US in 1846, where Maida's father, Dr F.C. Castelhun, practised medicine. She was a member of the Heterodoxy Club. Maida Castelhun Darnton moved to Paris with her American husband, Charles Darnton, dramatic critic of the Evening World. She became a translator for French novels, including The fourth musketeer, the life of Alexander Dumas.

Maida Castelhun Darnton was a member of the class of '94, University of California. She was president of the Women's University Club of New York, which she practically founded. Her father Dr F.C. Castelhun was prominent in the medical profession in San Francisco for many years. Her brother, Paul Castelhun, was a famous football player while a student at the University of California.
