Olive Rinder (born October 20, 1894) was born in Forehoe, Norfolk. Educated in England and France, she was, both in England and Canada, a gardener, florist, secretary, factory hand governess, and a host of other things. In the late 1920s she tried her hands writing short stories and lived in Chelsea with Evelyn Irons. She was a neurotic, tubercular young woman with a 'leftish' background who served in a bookshop opposite Evelyn's flat in Royal Hospital Road. Olive got on with Una Vincenzo, Lady Troubridge as well as Evelyn did with Radclyffe Hall, the two of them living near them in Chelsea.

When in 1931 Irons started a relationship with Vita Sackville-West, also Rinder fell in love with her. When Evelyn left Olive for another woman (Joy McSweeney), Vita continued to support Olive for the remainder of her life, arranging for her to occupy a bungalow at Sissinghurst.

In 1938 she married Derek James C. Beck (1913-1998), in Holborn, Middlesex.
