Wilson was the daughter of Joel Thomas Wilson and Sarah Elizabeth Cox. Joel Thomas Wilson (1848-1908) was a direct descendant of George and Mary Boone, and therefore linked to Daniel Boone, American pioneer, explorer, woodsman, and frontiersman whose frontier exploits made him one of the first folk heroes of the United States; Joel Thomas Wilson married first in 1877, Lizzie Waide (died 1882), and second in 1884, Sarah Elizabeth Cox. He was a man of strong convictions, an able speaker, prominent church worker, and a popular and influential citizen. Children: William Waide Wilson (born 1879), Wallace Neville Wilson (born 1882, married Gertrude Holmes Warner), Joel Offutt Wilson (born 1886), Esther Wilson (born 1889), Rachel Wilson.
