Caroline Town Stebbins (January 22, 1828, New York - January 5, 1903, La Grange Brown Illinois) was a writer and translator. She married Sergeant John Rollin Tilton (1828-1888), son of Maj Daniel G. Tilton and Sarah Clough, on May 27, 1858, in Saint James, Westminster, London, England. Rollin Tilton and his wife gathered a following among émigrés and visitors from the English speaking world.[4] Among them were John Ruskin and Henry James.[5]
Caroline Town Stebbins was the daughter od John Stebbins (1783-1834) and Mary Largin (died 1874). Her sister was Emma Stebbins.
Caroline Town Stebbins and John Rollin Tilton had three children: Paul Harvey Tilton (born 1859), John Neal Tilton (born 1860) and Lt Col Ernest Rollin Tilton (1866-1929).
