Elizabeth "Eliza" Julia Schlatter Chandler (May 29, 1809 - November 14, 1892) wrote to her friend Sophie DuPont in 1834, “I wish I could be with you present in the body as well as the mind & heart—I would turn your good husband out of bed—and snuggle into you and we would have a long talk like old times.”

Elizabeth "Eliza" Julia Schlatter was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the daughter of William Vaughn Schlatter and Catherine Lyon. He was Assistsnt U.S. Treasurer. In 1837, at 28 years old, she married Theophilus Parsons Chandler (born 1807). Their children are: Mary Elizabeth Chandler; Lt. Col. Charles Lyon Chandler; Frances Vaughan Chandler; Theophilus Parsons Chandler; Alfred Dupont Chandler, I; Alice Augusta Chandler and Sumner Chase Chandler.  In the 1850s they moved to Massachusetts; at the time of her death she lived at Washington Street, Brookline.
