Irene “Renee” Barlow (January 22, 1914 - February 21, 1973) was an office manager and personnel director. Pauli Murray formed a long-term relationship with Renee Barlow, which endured until Barlow’s death in 1973. Her philosophical evolution and the 1973 death of her partner Renee Barlow led Murray to resign her position at Brandeis University.
Pauli Murray died on July 1, 1985. She was interred in Cypress Hills Cemetery in Brooklyn with her partner Renee Barlow and her aunts Pauline Dame and Sarah Small. As Pauli Murray did not maintain a long-term residence or office, her family’s Durham home is the only extant building that is closely associated with her life.
